Our aim was to create an environment where players were free to express themselves without any fear of failure and to allow parents and coaches to relax and enjoy watching the players play. Although there were points for winning games and the opportunity to qualify for the semi-finals and final we were delighted with the level of sportsmanship, creativity on the court and the behaviour of everyone involved.
We were delighted to welcome Head NTC and former Perth Glory coach, Kenny Lowe, to the tournament. He was very impressed with the level of play and the atmosphere that had been created. Kenny spoke to all of the players and parents at the end of the 2004/2003 tournament about the importance of allowing children to develop and enjoy the game. He also said that it was essential that children play small sided games and that many of his NTC players had played futsal from an early age which has been key to their development.
The feedback from the tournament has been excellent and we are excited about the 2013 tournaments we will hold in July and December.
“Very well organised and lots of positive messages for the kids to take away”
“It was so nice to hear you speak of the importance of sportsmanship, respect and manners, as we feel this is missing in the game here”
“I have learned so much today about letting the players play and it was nice to sit back and watch them have fun. I will change the way I coach them from now on”
“Well done, we look forward to the next one”
